Abstract
Mathematics problems solving, especially in plane material, is an important aspect for the development of logical thinking abilities. This article aims to analyze the errors that often occur to students when completing problem solving questions on flat shapes. This research uses descriptive qualitative methods to explain students' mistakes when answering questions. The subjects of this research consisted of 3 class VIII students at SMPN Langsa who were selected based on their mathematics semester scores, namely the highest, medium and low. The research results showed that the subjects made mistakes when answering questions in the sections understanding the problem, planning procedures and completing mathematical procedures. This shows the need for further research to overcome these errors. At the end of the writing, the researcher offers solutions that teachers can use to minimize the mistakes students make when working on problem solving questions
